Hello and thanks for joining us on this episode!
Today’s podcast is an important discussion on the importance of mental illness awareness.
Mental illness is a condition that affects most people at some point in our lives. Unfortunately it’s also a topic that often gets overlooked, ignored or mis-diagnosed.
Depression is one of the most common forms of mental illness and if not taken care of either in the form of therapy, medication or reaching out, it can lead to more long term issues affecting not just the mind but the body as well.
In This Podcast You Will Learn:
1). Why it’s so important to dedicate a week or a month to mental illness awareness and how this affects so many people every year.
2). Some of the reasons why mental illness has a bad stigma attached to it and why it is so easily mis-understood when it comes to be taken seriously.
3). How mental illness affects more seniors than we might have missed and how it can easily be overlooked within this generation.
4). The correlation between mental illness and how that also affects the body physically.
5). Why it’s hard to realize that you may be suffering from depression or mental illness and why self diagnosing the issue can be easily unrecognized.
6). How and where you can go to get help if you or someone you know is currently suffering from a form of mental illness.
Getting help if you have feelings of depression or isolation should be the number one priority if you feel this way or know of someone who does. The link mentioned in this episode that you can go to and call the friendship hotline can be found here by the Institute On Aging.
It’s so important to make it a priority to get help especially in these challenging times. Mental illness can lead to much more if not diagnosed correctly and taken care of.
Stay safe, happy and health always!
