Hello and thanks for joining us on the important episode!
This week we’re diving into a great discussion about the effects of alcohol especially in our senior population. Enjoying a beer or wine occasionally is a great way to get ourselves into “relax mode” and enjoy some down time.
It’s also a great way to bond with friends or loved ones. But what exactly do we need to know about the effect alcohol has on our bodies especially as we age? Are we at higher risk of being impaired? Is it safe to be mobile for a long period of time? What are the risks?
These are all great questions that we may overlook while partaking in a few drinks and we’re here today to provide some insight into a few things to keep in mind the next time we have a drink so we can enjoy safely and responsibly.
In This Podcast You Will Learn:
1). Why we felt that discussing the effects of alcohol specifically in seniors is so important and why it can be overlooked and thought of as no different than drinking at any age.
2). How drinking and consuming alcohol in seniors is more often that not underestimated and how this can cause over assumptions about just how much seniors taken in alcohol which can lead to safety issues.
3). The most important things we should keep in mind so that anyone who does drink can do so safely especially in our senior generation.
4). Why it’s so important to understand why and when your drinking occurs and if this is causing problems not just with health but also safety which can lead to things like falling etc.
5). How the holiday season and especially now with COVID social distancing can raise some concern as levels of alcohol consumption rises and what to watch for if it becomes a problem.
6). Some tips on what you can do or where you can go if you feel that drinking has become a problem for you or for someone you know and why it’s so important to reach during this time. Your health, safety and well being are most important always!
Thanks again for joining us on this great discussion. Having a few drinks with friends or at home is very common and we love having our time to relax. But also having the knowledge as to what we can keep in mind while drinking will contribute to help keeping us safe as well.
