Hello and thank you for joining us on this podcast episode!
This week we are covering an important topic that affects many people every year, receiving a cancer diagnosis and how that affects your ability to stay active during this time.
There are many types of cancers and no one diagnosis means the same for everyone. Our bodies deal with this disease differently and if you or someone you know gets diagnosed, you may find yourself asking what does this mean when it comes to staying active?
Are you still able to exercise moderately if you have early stages of cancer?
First off, consulting your doctor is always the number one step to take when it comes to finding out if you can still be active. Your doctor will be your first point of contact on this. If they say you should try to stay physically active then Meredith breaks down a few ways you can achieve this not only physically but mentally as well.
In This Podcast You Will Learn:
1). Why we felt it was so important to discuss this topic regarding exercise and cancer and why there are so many questions revolving around the question of whether exercise is a good idea during a cancer diagnosis.
2). Why the best resource on knowing what exercises you can still do is your doctor or physician but also being aware of how active you were before a diagnosis and knowing what your body and physical health is capable of.
3). How can you still stay motivated to exercise in this time and what will help keep you going and wanting to stay active.
4). Why understanding that not every day is going to be a good day especially for exercise. And also understanding that pushing too much may not benefit your health journey. Go at a pace that works for you even if it’s just stretching in bed one day and walking on another.
5). Why knowing that you are not alone in this journey and that reaching out online or to support groups can help keep you inspired and motivated to not only stay active but to keep fighting. This is so important!
